Pink salmon at the mouth of the Indian River. The pink salmon, along with a very few larger chum salmon, were gathering near the mouths of all rivers in Sitka. They are transforming to their spawning form and waiting for the right time to migrate up the rivers to spawn. These pink salmon, locally called humpys, because of the exaggerated humped back the male salmon get in their spawning form. The salmon at the bottom of the image is starting to grow this hump.
